Water bombers are mainly used for fire fighting,
The water bomber has the ability to skim over water
and re-fill. It can also land on the water. Being able to maintain flight and re-fill gives the water bomber a big edge over land based bombers. Quick fire suppression is often crucial to stop a fire before it spreads. A body of water large and calm enough for the planes to land is required. Chemicals that create extra foam are also sometimes used with the water bomber. The chemicals are added to the water load. When dropped, the reaction to the air increases the drop zone coverage. Regular float planes can support fire suppression by flying in fast response teams in remote locations.
